NZLSA also publishes its very own magazine called LEX. This was established in 1999 and has been produced twice/three times a year. LEX gives law students across the country the opportunity to not only read about what is going on in terms of recruitment, legal competitions and achievements of New Zealand law students but also the opportunity to contribute to the magazine and write articles of their own. It is widely distributed across all six of the New Zealand law faculties and gives law students the opportunity to see what is going on amongst fellow law students around the country. LEX boasts writers from not only New Zealand but also overseas and features articles on a wide range of legally related subjects. NZLSA often approaches former law students now engaged in legal practice or in other interesting legally related fields of work to write articles for LEX often regarding what they have done since they have left law school, leaving the reader with interesting ideas and opportunities perhaps not previously contemplated. This year LEX will have an electronic PDF version that can be downloaded from the website with a link to do so on facebook, so make sure you like the NZLSA facebook page and keep an eye out this year for LEX Magazine!

This is the first edition of Lex for 2011 otherwise known as the recruitment edition. We have a number of rather interesting articles about experiences that different law students have had over the summer, and advice written for students intent on applying for summer clerking or graduate positions.

This is the second issue of LEX 2011. From an article on how the Christchurch 2011 earthquake has changed the ‘red light’ district in Christchurch, to puzzles and a cross word, this edition will strike a chord with every law student.

If you are reading this magazine, chances are you are a law student. And if you’re a law student in New Zealand, you are a member of the NZLSA. The NZLSA is the New Zealand Law Student’s Association. You can still submit articles to the LEX over your summer holiday! So if you write an awesome Legal Opinion for one of your summer school papers, just revise it and send it in to get published. Or if you find yourself taking amazing photos, creating cool artwork or drawing up comics, send them in.
